What is Peri-menopause & Menopause?
Perimenopause is the natural transition leading up to menopause, where your hormones, particularly oestrogen and progesterone, begin to fluctuate. In most people this phase can start in your late 30s or 40s and may last several years. However if like me you have had a hysterectomy at a young age then it is possible you will enter this stage younger than 'most' people.
Menopause is officially reached when you haven’t had a period for 12 consecutive months.
But there is SO much more about navigating this stage of your life than just your cycle stopping…
It’s a full-body shift that affects your sleep, hormones, metabolism, mood, energy, social life and overall wellbeing. Including some symptoms that people don't often talk about in public because of the nature of them.
What's REALLY upsetting is, most of us have been suffering for a good 12-18 months before we realise what it is, AND if you think you will get support from your GP, well you will be extremely disappointed as most of our GP's fail to support us until we get near the very end because the training for menopause is minimal.
This is where I come in.
